In spirit, this Cooper Family Collection, acquired in 1986, is gathered around the person of William Cooper (1798?-1864) of Hudson County, NJ, an early American naturalist of relative professional reputation. In substance, however, the body of the collection rests on the correspondences of his daughter, Francis Cooper--with her sisters, grandmother and especially fiancee and later husband, Emil Cuntz, a successful German merchant.

This collection was digitized as part of a grant from the Mellon Foundation.
